Applications to the fund are now closed, thank you.
In October 2020, the Ministry of Health allocated $1.7 million to support pharmacists at the frontline of the COVID-19 pandemic. The contract has been extended to enable the Pharmacy Council to administer the remaining $175,000 in funding to support overstretched pharmacy teams.
Applications are open to all practicing community pharmacists, technicians, and community pharmacy employers to help relieve pharmacists / technicians who may need an extra break (for whatever reason, including those with no leave allowance).
The fund covers the hourly wages of relief pharmacists/technicians/locums, and any agreed travel requirements. There is also a flat rate per night accommodation allowance available to cover agreed accommodation needs for pharmacy relief team members or locums.
Allocation of the fund will be weighted towards community pharmacy teams that:
- provide services to Māori and Pasifika communities
- provide services in high deprivation areas
- are working with a sole practitioner
- include early career pharmacists.
Relief can be provided by a locum pharmacist and/or technician you know already or a pharmacist and/or technician suggested by us.
Pharmacists who wish to make an application, who are not employers, are encouraged to connect with their employer openly about their workload relief needs and make a joint application to the fund with their employer.
Find out more about the process for applying for relief funding or to make an offer to be a relieving pharmacist/technician below.
Applying for relief funding
The Fund is being administered using a high trust model requiring a declaratory statement by the employer and to ensure those people employed to provide relief are fairly paid for their services, and respects any flexibility needed to provide those services.
Council encourages pharmacists and their employers to consider relief needs together. This is an enabling initiative to benefit an employer’s pharmacy team.
Council trusts that the information provided in an application for pharmacy team relief is true and correct. The information provided in an application should be able to withstand scrutiny, in the event a check is made, with corresponding information being obtainable from the pharmacy.
The intention of the Fund is that rates are paid out in full to the relieving pharmacists/technician/locum.
Following a successful application, and signed reimbursement agreement, the funding will be reimbursed to the pharmacy employer.
